Cosmetic fillings are made of composite (a glass-reinforced resin) in the natural shade of your teeth. They bond to the tooth and are hardened with blue light in minutes — used to treat decay and for purely cosmetic improvements.

After your filling
You can eat as soon as the anaesthesia wears off. Brush and floss daily, avoid biting hard objects with filled front teeth, and have a polish every 6 months to keep the colour.
Frequently asked questions
Are white fillings as strong as amalgam?
Modern composite bonds chemically to the tooth and distributes stress well. It suits molars unless the cavity is very large, in which case we recommend a ceramic inlay or a crown.
Do they change colour?
They may pick up slight staining after years of coffee and smoking. Periodic polishing restores the shine.
How long do they last?
5–10 years on average depending on size and location.
Can old black fillings be replaced?
Yes — we replace them with tooth-coloured fillings in the same visit.
Does it hurt?
It's done under local anaesthesia, so you feel nothing. Shallow fillings sometimes need no anaesthesia at all.
